TDEC is Designated a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™

In March, TDEC was named a Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador™, a NOAA initiative to create a network of committed partners to improve “the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events.” Somewhat simultaneous to notification of our WRN Ambassador designation, the coronavirus pandemic hit. TDEC, along with everyone else, got busy safeguarding our workplaces and employees for continuity of essential business, an introduction to resilience and responsiveness in the face of an extreme event. Our employee-run Wellness Committee used its megaphone to share expert advice with employees on how to stay healthy at home and in the community. As those efforts continue, we now include activities to strengthen the national resilience against extreme weather events among our stakeholders – employees and clients. So, what does that look like?

TDEC has employees and clients nationwide. As a result, they may experience one or more type of extreme weather event depending upon their location: hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, flooding, extreme heat, drought and more. As the Atlantic hurricane season shifts into higher gear and the winter season nears, we will begin to share emergency weather preparedness tips with both employees and clients through our multiple communication channels, including website, social and email.

In addition, we will continue to educate our clients on the importance of document management. Documentation is the lifeblood of organizations. In the event of an extreme weather event, our clients’ employees may be house-bound and, must work remotely. Access to relevant documents will be critical, as many have discovered during the pandemic’s stay-at-home orders. For our clients – commercial, nonprofit, and governmental – we will share our knowledge of document preparation, hosting, digitization, indexing to assure easy access from anywhere and continuity of business.
